Noor Shehata served her fellowship with the Lumber River Council of Governments, working with 36 local governments in Bladen, Hoke, Richmond, Robeson and Scotland Counties. Shehata secured roughly $2 million in grant funding for member communities through her research and technical support. She successfully created and passed two town seals for member governments and provided essential technical training on programs like Canva. Shehata’s work also played a vital role in developing substantial projects and programs, improving external communications and resiliency strategies, and increasing capacity for member governments in grant management.

Shehata graduated from North Carolina State University summa cum laude as a Park Scholar. While at NC State, she was president of American Justice Corps, an organization that works on dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline. She studied abroad in Florence, Italy, and also served within the Park Program as a member of the Learning Lab II committee and the Diversity Student Task Force. Shehata completed a summer congressional legislative internship within the office of U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley.
