Jurisdiction: City of Hendersonville

University: Wake Forest University

Hometown: Fayetteville, NC

Nico Aime serves as a Lead for North Carolina Fellow with the City of Hendersonville’s Community Development Department, where he supports three major affordable housing initiatives. During his fellowship, Nico will create a GIS-based clearinghouse of affordable housing units by collecting data from nonprofit organizations and community partners, coordinating with the City’s GIS Division, and establishing a process for regularly updating the database. He will also help rewrite the City’s Minimum Housing Code, develop an internal enforcement procedure, and research the City’s existing housing stock to preserve naturally occurring affordable housing, improve housing conditions, and make code enforcement more efficient. In addition, Nico will support the development of a Community Land Trust by coordinating across City departments, assisting with grant applications, managing project milestones, and helping establish a long-term framework for permanently affordable housing. Through these projects, he is gaining hands-on experience in GIS, ordinance and policy writing, affordable housing policy, project management, interdepartmental coordination, grant development, and the tools local governments can use to expand and preserve affordable housing.

Nico Aime graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in Politics and International Affairs. Undergraduate research focused on immigration, housing, and forced migration, including work on the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti. After graduation, Nico
worked as a policy advocate in Washington, D.C., and looks forward to supporting Hendersonville’s Strategic Housing Plan.
