Mya Ellis completed her fellowship with the Town of Biscoe. She created the Town’s strategic plan, which laid out a vision for the community while bridging the gap between local government officials, business workers, and members of the community. She worked on economic recovery and resiliency efforts as part of the North Carolina Community Economic Recovery and Resiliency Initiative program. Ellis also digitized the Town cemetary’s records to ensure accuracy in record-keeping.

Ellis graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and concentrations in forensic science and global justice from Winston-Salem State University. She served as the department’s Justice Studies Club vice president and research assistant. Ellis held previous local government experience, having served as an intern for the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program, as well as working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Police Department and the District Attorney’s office.
