Jurisdiction: Town of Maggie Valley

University: UNC - Chapel Hill

Hometown: Washington, NC

Claire Scott Stevens serves as a Lead for North Carolina Fellow with the Town of Maggie Valley, where she supports internal management systems, strategic planning, and land-use policy. During her fellowship, Claire will create a comprehensive system for tracking the Town’s five-year strategic plan and develop a progress report that can guide annual budgeting and future implementation. She will also compile and review Town contracts, develop a database to track key terms and expiration dates, and identify agreements that may need to be updated or formalized. In addition, Claire will evaluate the Town’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Unified Development Ordinance, identify regulatory “pinch points,” compare Maggie Valley’s policies with those of other North Carolina communities, and work with the Planning Director to develop recommendations and priorities. Through these projects, she is gaining hands-on experience in strategic planning, contract management, land use and zoning, policy research, report writing, and local government communications while creating sustainable tools that Town staff can continue using after her fellowship.

Claire Scott Stevens recently graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Public Policy. Passionate about improving North Carolina communities, Claire enjoys crafting, video games, and knitting, and hopes to build a career dedicated to strengthening the state.
