Nyreke Peters served his fellowship with Edgecombe County and focused on making county government more accessible to residents. He created Community Voice, the County’s official citizen academy. Peters was responsible for creating the trainings, identifying guest speakers, and selecting participants.

Peters graduated from Middlebury College with bachelor’s degrees in sociology and anthropology. While at Middlebury, he was a member of the College Debate Society, Black Student Union, and a WRMC Radio DJ. In addition, Peters, along with classmates, led public speaking workshops for an elder care center known as Elderly Services. His previous local government experience includes interning for the City of Clinton Planning Department.
