Shom served their fellowship in the City of Elizabeth City and secured over $4.3 million to support its public works department. They worked on a wide range of critical public works projects, including alleviating bank erosion in historically Black neighborhoods; replacement of water and sewer lines in historically underserved communities; conducting pump station research to improve future developments and storm impacts; and creating multi-use paths to connect key neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. Additionally, Tiwari authored and managed a $1 million grant to fund needed repairs and resiliency improvements after major hurricanes damaged the City’s sanitary sewer pump stations.
