Biography

Saoirse Scott served her fellowship in the Town of Edenton. She worked with the town planner and town manager on long term community development and rehabilitation initiatives. Scott worked extensively on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) policy creation and compliance. This included creating the town’s ADA compliance policy, facilitating a public input session for the Town’s ADA Transition Plan, and crafting educational materials on inclusive language for Town employees. She also met with community members with disabilities to inform the Town’s plans to increase the quality of life for disabled residents of Edenton. Additionally, Scott presented research on improving Edenton’s housing codes, clarifying the Town’s authority to enforce different kinds of violations.

Before LFNC

Scott graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science and Hispanic linguistics and a minor in public policy from UNC-Chapel Hill. She served as the treasurer and concert manager for the Tarpeggios, a co-ed a cappella group. Scott also worked as outreach coordinator for Teachers2Teachers (T2T) Global, a non-profit STEM education organization, and recruited teachers from all over the US to serve on teacher trips promoting STEM education and professional development in partner communities around the world.
