Betsy is a double Tar Heel, graduating with degrees in Political Science and Public Policy, followed by a Master of Public Policy. Her graduate studies focused on environmental policy and human welfare, culminating in a capstone project with Appalachian Voices researching reforestation programs for abandoned coal mine lands in Appalachia. Coming from a small, rural town in the North Carolina mountains, Betsy is dedicated to using policy to enhance rural communities. Her Appalachian roots deeply influence her commitment to preserving the mountain environment and supporting sustainable growth while protecting the region’s unique culture.Betsy’s future aspirations are centered on making a positive impact in her beloved hometown and beyond.
